What good looks like
Background: By September 2025, all IFS data currently residing in the Apps 10 solution will transition to the IFS Cloud environment.
Commitment: Data Engineering commits to ensuring uninterrupted delivery of DataMarts sourced exclusively from IFS Cloud, enabling the continuity of reporting assets.
Prerequisites for a Successful Transition
1. Reduction of Views Used by Reports
Action Required (Report Writers):
Transition all reporting activities to the current DataMart version i.e. away from 202404 etc as these versions are not optimised, and relying solely on export tables thus excluding outdated legacy dependencies.
Refer to DataMart Usage report and check Knowhow is up to date for version information
2. Access to the IFS Development Environment
Key Steps:
- Data Engineering: Complete the Analysis Model Infrastructure setup in Azure for Self-Hosted BI.
- Refer to IFS documentation: Analysis Model Infrastructure Setup
- IFS Team: Provide development environment credentials and necessary access instructions.
- Refer to IFS documentation: Self Hosted BI for Deployment Scenario 2
Development Activities
3. Reconstruction of DataMart Views
Goal:
Migrate and optimise the latest DataMart views to source data exclusively from IFS Cloud.
Key Actions:
- Streamline Views:
- Reassess the relevance of existing views and prioritise their conversion.
- Field Mapping and Customisation:
- Identify customised fields unavailable in the IFS Cloud data schema.
- Provide and implement suitable surrogate values where needed.
4. Quality Improvement for Future Versions
Enhance the beta version of the DataMart views to meet production-level standards, utilising data from IFS Cloud as the foundation.
Resource Estimates and Timeline
- Total Views to be Migrated: 113
- Effort per View: 2.5 man-days
- Estimated Total Effort: ~282.5 man-days
- Equivalent to approximately 56.5 weeks for one person.
- Team resource allocation required for timely delivery.
Summary of Commitment
Data Engineering will ensure:
- Seamless service delivery and continuity of reporting.
- Alignment with the IFS Cloud environment to leverage its full capabilities.
- Collaboration across teams to meet all prerequisites and maintain high-quality outputs.
Next Steps
- Confirm the action plan with all stakeholders.
- Assign resources and define milestones for the development and migration phases.
- Establish regular review meetings to track progress and address blockers.
